T Narasipura ( Tirumakoodalu Narsipura)

The is a very religious place it is surrounded by Astadala Parvats and at the confluence of the three rivers Cauvery, Kapila and Gupthagamini Spatika Sarovara is called Triveni sangama spot.The pace was also called as Trimakoota in the past. It is also a very renounced pilgrimage center, sanctified by sage Agasthya. There is a famous Agastheswara Temple here. This Kshetra(sacred place) is also mentioned in the Skanda Purana also.

The Someshwara and Markandeshwara Lingam in T Narsipur and the Gargeshwara Lingam at Gargeshwari village, along with the Agasthyeshwara and the Hanuman Lingam, form the panchalingas of T Narsipur. T Narsipura is also considered as Dakshina Kashi.

Kumbamela is performed once in three years, only at this location in South India. Panchalinga Darshana is also famous event here.

History:

According to scriptures Maharishi Agasthya went through the Dandakarnya. He was followed by River Kaveri. Here he wanted to offer prayer to Lord Shiva. He ordered Hanuman to get a Shiva Lingam from Kashi for puja. by the time Hanuman could get the Lingam Agasthya made a Lingam out of sand and started to worship it. Hanuman when returned with the Lingam was annoyed, and try to destroy the lingam. The lingam has the imprint of the fist even to this day. The height of the lingam is about 60 feet placed near the river bed of Kaveri and Kapalli.

Peepal Tree

The oldest peepal tree is also here (2000yrs old) and also been venerated as Brahmaswatha (as one that is in Gaya Kshetra). It is also called as 'Bahuvara Prasadi'. People who have no children come here and perform pradakishna and install Nagastone to get their wishes fulfilled.

Vyasaraya Mutt

There is also a Vyasaraya Mutt which has eight mruthika Brindavans and one Mula Brindavan of Sri Raghunatha Thirtha.

Gunja Narsimha Swamy Temple

This temple is on the other bank of River Kapila and Cauvery.The Temple is built in Dravidian Style with a large structure and a high gopura with four pillared mantap. Lord Narsimha holds in his right hand a berry stalk of Gunja plant between his thumb and forefinger. Every year the " Car Festival of Gunja Narasimha Swamy " is celebrated with pomp and show.

Department of Archeology and Museums of Karnataka have unearthed major evidence of prehistoric habitation at T Narasipura. The ground excavations comprising burial ground remnants, potteries, graffiti, stone implements, metal objects, beads and bangles, animal remains, human remains, wood remains belonging to the Neolithic phase, have been found.

One can visit Talakadu, Somanathpur, Nanjangud, Mysore en-route to this place.
