• Mangalore most suitable region for SEZ
  State Chief Secretary P B Mahishi has hinted that both the proposed Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Petroleum Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) would not be withdrawn from Mangalore.
  
  Addressing a press conference at NMPT Guest House here on Wednesday, he said Mangalore was the most suitable region for both the projects. Though in the beginning he said there had been much competition for taking over PCPIR to three other states other than Karnataka, later he said as the project was basically of ONGC, it must be operated only from Mangalore.
  
  
• Mangalore-Bangalore train services from Dec 8, 2007
  The long standing demand of the people of south coastal districts in Karnataka will be met with South Central Railway introducing Mangalore-Yeswantpur passenger train services from December eight.
  
  The inaugural run between Mangalore and Yesvantpur, in this city, would be flagged off by Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav from Mangalore railway station.
  
  
• 7 pair of trains in Bangalore-Mangalore route
  
  The Railways Safety Commissionerate gave permission to operate limited number of both passenger and goods trains between Bangalore-Mangalore sector.

  Informing the media, Manager Mr Praveen Kumar said after placing the newly-installed Online Train Enquiry Kiosks, with touch screen interface, at the Banglore Railway Station, South Western Railway General, the Railway Safety Commissioner gave agreed to run seven pairs of trains in the newly convert broadguage section between Bangalore and Mangalore.
  
  

• Karnataka coastal belt to be developed under PPP
  The process for development of tourist hot spots in Coastal Karnataka under Public-Private Participation (PPP) as part of the coastal tourism circuit began with the identification of potential tourism destinations in Mangalore.

  Karnataka State Industrial Investment and Development Corporation (KSIIDC) Chairman N Yogesh Bhat, MLA, who visited four places in the city yesterday, said Sulthan Bathery, the estuary near Hoige Bazaar, Levelle Point and Tannirbhavi have been identified for tourism development. A sum of Rs 145 crore had been allocated for tourism development in the budget this year, including Rs 20 crore for the city, he added.
  
  

• Bangalore-Mangalore trains may be launched soon
  The long-pending passenger train service on the Mangalore-Hassan-Bangalore route via Arasikere is all set to become a reality soon. Guage conversion work of the 55 km stretch between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road, which come under the picturesque Western Ghats section, had been pending for long, thus delaying the Bangalore-Mangalore train service. Once the section is opened for passenger trains, services can run from Bangalore to Mangalore via Arasikere and Mysore to Mangalore via Hassan.
  
  
• Doha-Bahrain-Mangalore flight from Mar 25
  One more new international flight service between Doha-Bahrain-Mangalore will commence from March 25, 2007. According to Airport Authority of India (AAI) sources, the flight of Air India Express (AIE), was tentatively scheduled arrive at Bajpe Airport on March 25 from Doha via Bahrain at 2355 hrs and depart at 0055 hrs.
  
  
• Mangalore-Bangalore train service from January 2007
  The much awaited train service between Mangalore and Bangalore will commence from January next, Southern Railway General Manager Triloknath Patty said today. Talking to newsmen at Subramanya, after inspecting the new broadguage line, he said that the works have been completed and already goods train service has commenced on the new track.
  
  
• International services to Bajpe airport from May 29
  The much-awaited International flight service to the Bajpe airport, near here, which proved to be a non-starter due to various reasons, is likely to commence from May 29. A top official of the Airports Authority of India at the airport said the chartered flight from Sharjah, which was rescheduled to arrive here yesterday, had once again been postponed due to some confusion in the gulf country over starting the flight service.
  
  
• M'lore-B'lore travel a nightmare
  Those commuting between Mangalore and Bangalore by road are well aware of the agony. The Shiradi ghat stretch of the National Highway-48, linking Port city to the State capital is in a pathetic condition.
  
  Since no repair works have been taken up for many years to make the road motorable, the travellers are facing the brunt. The plight of the road is so bad that it seems like connectivity between the two major cities of the state are almost cut off.
