Confer special status to Hampi: Historian Renowned historian and Kannada literary scholar M Chidananda Murthy today demanded the Karnataka Government to take steps to confer special status to World Heritage centre Hampi on the lines of Vatican City. Govt to spend Rs 20 crore to develop Hampi site Tourism minister B Sriramulu has said the ministry will release Rs 20 crore for infrastructure development at the heritage site of Hampi. He was speaking in Hospet after unveiling a statue of Valmiki on Saturday evening. The tourism ministry has already taken steps like launching tongas for visitors to go around Hampi.
Hampi: UNESCO's move a recognition to Hamoi's hard work The removal of the name of world heritage site Hampi from the list of endangered monuments is a recognition for the Hamoi Development Authority which took up several works to develop it as the historic spot as per the guidelines of UNESCO, Deputy Commissioner Arvind Srivastav said today. Hampi, cruises on tourism growth agenda The study recommends the need to develop Hampi as a beautiful heritage experience, achieve eco-tourism brand – ‘green label’ for key eco-destinations, institute internal quality certification systems for all eco-tourism projects, develop Cruise Terminal at Mangalore, explore potential of river cruises, explore possibility of coastal luxury train and take proactive steps to build its profile in medical tourism. -
Hampi has been removed from the world heritage endangered list by the UNESCO, Bellary District Deputy Commissioner Aravind Srivastav said on Wednesday.
Talking to newsmen here, he said that a communication to this effect has been received and UNESCO will be making official announcement to this effect in January.

Though the preparation for the forthcoming Hampi Utsav is going on, the people of Hampi are not feeling that the stage is being readied for the grand event in full swing. The lack of enthusiasm and interest among the organisers may be the reason for the dull atmosphere in the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagar Empire.
