Another test is being conducted to mitigate the human-wildlife conflict. Instead of electric fences and crackers, this time, the forest department and an NGO are trying the great Indian rope trick.

UB CITY-The Collection, the country's largest and first luxury retail outlet will come up at the UB City, the noted landmark in the city built by Vijay Mallya owned UB Group.
According to Irfan Razak, CMD of Presgite Group, which jointly developed the skyscraper with the UB Group said the luxury retail market, which was still at the nascent stage in India and the unveiling of 'UB City - The Collection' would open a new vista into the sector.

- Mysore-Bangalore twin track by 09
The much awaited Mysore-Bangalore railway line doubling will be completed by 2009, according to Parliamentary Railway Standing Committee Chairman Basudeb Acharie. Speaking to media persons here on Thursday., he said the committee was on a visit to Mysore railway workshop and meet officials.
- Bangalore railway station to have Wi-Fi connectivity
Bangalore will become the first railway station to be equipped with Wi-Fi connectivity by August, Rail Tel Corporation of India Ltd MD, K K Bajpeyee, said today. Initially, it will function within a radius of 2-4 km from the station, and its radius will gradually be expanded to cover large number of residential and commercial establishments near railway stations.

- Janapada Jathre row gets complicated
The row over chief minister H D Kumaraswamy's pet programme Janapada Jathre (folk fair) is set to boil over even as the matter is expected to be discussed in the cabinet on Monday. Kannada and culture minister H S Mahadev Prasad has ordered the Jathre to be halted to "restructure it and reduce expenditure." But the minister has taken exception to Jathre convener Sreenivas G Kappanna going to the media stating that "no reason has been attributed" for stopping the popular event.

San Francisco, the West Coast city of the United States has taken a initiative to rope in Bangalore for sister city arrangement on the line of China's Shanghai, Mr Jim Herlihy, high level representative from the office of the Mayor San Francisco informed here last night.
- Bangalore-Mangalore trains may be launched soon
The long-pending passenger train service on the Mangalore-Hassan-Bangalore route via Arasikere is all set to become a reality soon. Guage conversion work of the 55 km stretch between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road, which come under the picturesque Western Ghats section, had been pending for long, thus delaying the Bangalore-Mangalore train service. Once the section is opened for passenger trains, services can run from Bangalore to Mangalore via Arasikere and Mysore to Mangalore via Hassan.

IT hub Bangalore ranks the fourth cleanest city among 18 State Capitals, according to a Lifebuoy Cleanliness Survey. The city ranked fourth with a score of 108, as against the all-city average of 100. The areas where the city have done well were clean roads, efficient garbage disposal system and greenery and plantations, a release here said today. - Students to make Lalbagh plastic-free
City's schoolchildren will guard all entrance points of Lalbagh to check the bags of visitors and replace the plastic ones with cloth bags.The students will also perform street plays and even help in cleaning the garden. This initiative is a part of a month-long campaign undertaken by Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Department of Horticulture to make Lalbagh plastic-free.

The much awaited train service between Mangalore and Bangalore will commence from January next, Southern Railway General Manager Triloknath Patty said today. Talking to newsmen at Subramanya, after inspecting the new broadguage line, he said that the works have been completed and already goods train service has commenced on the new track.
- Mysore-Bangalore highway to be opened on Aug 31
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will formally inaugurate the four-lane Mysore-Bangalore highway from this end tomorrow. The 134-km stretch, which had been upgraded into a four-lane highway, would ensure a hassle-free, smooth ride for passengers in just two hours. Work on upgrading the Srirangapatna-Mysore stretch of the highway into a six-lane road would commence tomorrow at a cost of Rs 18 crore. It was expected to be completed in 15 months.

Those commuting between Mangalore and Bangalore by road are well aware of the agony. The Shiradi ghat stretch of the National Highway-48, linking Port city to the State capital is in a pathetic condition.
Since no repair works have been taken up for many years to make the road motorable, the travellers are facing the brunt. The plight of the road is so bad that it seems like connectivity between the two major cities of the state are almost cut off.

Notwithstanding the delay in its implementation, Bangalore will be the first city in the country to be fully WiMax-enabled, offering wireless broadband service covering 743 square km of the city by the year-end.
Disclosing this at the curtain raiser press conference for the upcoming IT mega event 'BangaloreIT.in-2007', Karnataka IT and BT Secretary M N Vidyashankar said 70 per cent of the fixed base stations had been set up after the Government identified the bidder.
