- Swedish Defence company, Saab to open Aero R&D centre in Bangalore
India is geared up to become the warehouse of the world in the the next generation electronic warfare equipment in the wake of the high profile AeroSpace Show 2011 that began today (Feb 9) in Bangalore.
The first piece of news that emerged was the Swedish defence company Saab AB announcing its plan to set up a research and development centre in India. Talks are underway by the Swedish company and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) finalizing a joint- venture with HAL in the field of airborne electronic warfare systems.
- HAL 34th among Top 100 defence firms
Indian Defence aviation major, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is now ranked 34th among the 100 top defence establishments across the world.
According to a list released by a US-based Defence News magazine, HAL had improved its position significantly to emerge 34th from 45th in the previous ranking.
The top five slots are held by Lockheed Martin, Boeing, BAe Systems, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon respectively. -
HAL to set up training centre in Bangalore
Defence firm Hindustan Aeronautics Limited plans to set up a leadership development centre in Bangalore as it seeks to regenerate the company with employee-friendly initiatives. -
HAL Bangalore gets new MD
Mr Ashok Nayak has been appointed as the Managing Director (Bangalore Complex) of Defence aviation major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
Mr Nayak has been elevated to this high-profile post, following the superannuation of Mr A.K. Saxena on June 30. Mr Nayak assumed office on July 1, 2007. Prior to this he was the General Manager of Aircraft Division, HAL said in a release here. -
HAL Kanpur to take up IJT Production
Defence Aviation major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited HAL will shift production of indigenously developed Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), Sitara, to its Kanpur unit from Bangalore.
The IJT which is currently undergoing test flights was expected to be ready for certification in 2008. The initial production phase would be in Bangalore, but from 2010 the HAL Kanpur unit which had been producing Dorniers and Avros would take up IJT. -
HAL hands over second Dhruv to ONGC
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Monday handed over the second Dhruv helicopter to Oil & Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC). This civil variant of Dhruv is configured with one stretcher and five seats. ONGC will shortly ferry this helicopter to their facility in Nazira in Assam for undertaking casualty evacuation and underslung operations apart from utilising it in passenger/commuter roles. -
Hawk AJT of IAF in flight development programme
The first Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer, built by the BAE Systems for the Indian Air Force, has successfully entered the Indian flight development programme upon completion of its production flight acceptance tests. - HAL all set to storm Aero India 2007
Defence aviation major Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will be cementing new partnerships and projecting its research and development capability, besides various ongoing programmes at Aero India 2007, to kick start here on February seven.
- Weaponisation of Dhruv on: HAL
Weaponisation of Advanced Light Helicopter, Dhruv, is on schedule and the first chopper was likely to be rolled out by 2008, HAL said today. Initially, HAL would deliver four Naval versions on weaponised mode during 2008-09, followed by the Army requirement, HAL Chief Test Pilot Wg Cdr C Upadhyay told visiting newspersons at the HAL Helicopter Division here.

Public Sector Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), scripting yet another chapter in its long list of achievements, today launched a specially designed Chetak helicopter for emergency medical evacuation and air charter services here. HAL Chairman Ashok K Baweja formally inaugurated the operations of 'Vayu Vahan' at the Rotary Wing Academy in Bangalore airport.
