The Karnataka Private Medical & Dental Colleges Association, and Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association in their endeavour to offer an effective, fair and objective testing procedure to determine merit of students seeking admissions to the Member Institutions, have formed "Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka” COMEDK.
COMEDK has been assigned the task of organising a Common Entrance Test for every academic year, for candidates aspiring to pursue Under Graduate courses Medical, Dental and Engineering Colleges in the State of Karnataka, in member institutions of the Consortium (Medical, Dental and Engineering Colleges).
COMEDK entrance test & publication of test score and rank list will be followed by centralized counseling (Single window system).

Majority of candidates are from outside Karnataka, male and Engineering is the most popular curriculum. Very few take both fields, Engineering and Medical, seriously.

- Number of non-Karnataka students who appeared for ComedK was thrice the number of Karnataka candidates
- Number of ComedK seats for Medical (566), Dentail (948), Engineering (18,137), Architecture (165)
- Another report says number of students eligible for PCB stream was 6,609. Number of students who were eligible for medical came down by 1,423 due to new pattern of exam (it is not clear what this means, we are trying to find out for you)
