Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

Dandeli is the ideal vacation resort for those who are in love with nature. Being a heady mix of nature, adventure and wildlife. It is located on the banks of River Kali, amidst thick forests and hills of Uttara Kannada District. It is spread over 834.16 square Kms the Dandeli wildlife sanctuary is the second largest in Karnataka. The sanctuary is at a distance of 485kms from Banglore, 125 kms from Goa, 117 kms from Karwar, 95 kms from Belgaum.

Dandeli Wildlife SanctuaryExperience all the sights and sounds of the lush forests of Dandeli with a wildlife safari. The forest here is a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees including bamboo and teak plantations. The many fruit bearing trees provide food for the 196 species of birds found here.

The sanctuary offers you the rare glimpse of the Black panther, sambhar, bison, Malabar giant squirrel, elephant, tiger, leopard, gaur, flying squirrel, mouse deer etc.

During August and September, Malabar Pied Hornbills flock to the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary in large numbers to feast on the fruit trees. They create quite a show and it worth watching.

You will see a number of reptilian and amphibian species in and around the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary at Karnataka. The major wildlife attraction here are the are the crocodiles.

You can even walk through the undulating hills of the forest area and do various activities like bird watching through your powerful binoculars, see the crocodiles in the crystal clear water, do fishing. There are facilities for coracle boat rides and trekking in the jungles.

The best time to enjoy the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is between March and October and the center is open between 6AM and 6PM

How to get there
Air - The nearest airport is in Dabolim (Goa) at a distance of 145 kms.
Rail - The nearest railwaystation is in Londa (25 kms). Other railwaystations are in Dharwad (57 kms) and Hubli (72 kms). 
Road - The nearest destination by road is Dharwar (50 kms). The best way to reach Dandeli is to travel from Karwar which is at a distance of 120 kms.
